Redskins will beat Seattle, I guarantee it

Sure, my opinion may not be worth as much as a well dressed advertiser that guarantees that you’ll like the way you look, but you should hear me out.

Seattle is terrible, they may just be the worst 4-6 team of all time. Their offense has more of a problem converting third downs than we do, at 31.7% as opposed to our 35.5%.

They have Tavaris Jackson at quarterback. This is the same guy that couldn’t get a pass off in Minnesota, they bring over his favorite target with him and still no production. Tavaris has been the leading passer in three games all year and one of which his 197 yards beat out Alex Smith’s 124. (more…)

The NFC playoff picture, Redskins squarely outside the frame

It’s about that time of the year when the NFL playoffs really start to take shape. This year’s picture is fuzzier than in the past, but in the NFC there are 9 teams that have separated themselves from the pack and will be fighting for 6 spots down to the final week. The Redskins of course are not one of those teams remaining in the hunt, and don’t deserve to be, but there are some other teams still fighting that also may not deserve to be in the picture.

NFC West

At the bottom of the pack record-wise are the Seattle Seahawks (6-6) and St. Louis Rams (6-6) vying for the prestigious title of NFC west champion, a home playoff game, and hopefully a trouncing by a much better wild card team. Yes it is true, these two teams that had a combined record of 6-26 last year and could very well finish at or below .500 by season’s end have the chance to play a first round playoff game at home. The Seahawks still have to play games both at home against the Falcons and at the Buccaneers, whereas the Rams face tough challenges against a good Chiefs team and at the Saints. Each team also plays division foe San Francisco and they face off against each other in the final game of the season.

Prediction: Everything points to this one coming down to the last week, both teams at 7-8 or worse (with possible wins over San Francisco) and the winner heading into a home playoff game at 8-8. The Rams crushed the Seahawks in St. Louis 20-3 in week 4, look for Seattle to return the favor at home (where they are 4-2, as opposed to a 2-4 road record for the Rams) in week 17 and we can all look forward to a first round playoff game at Qwest field.

After loss at the Rams, Redskins look done

This Redskins remind me of a battered fighter that packs a huge punch, but no longer has the legs to go the distance. When Washington Redskins went to St. Louis I was not one of the foolish ones who predicted an easy, but ugly,win. If this is a boxing match, the Redskins came into the fight with their hands down. The short kick-off gave St. Louis enough of a boost to get an early score.

I knew from the get-go, that if the Rams would win this game they would have to get a quick big score. That they did, and Stephen Jackson scored from 41-yards out. On the subsequent series, the Redskins had a punk blocked, that once again gave the Rams excellent field position. This led to another Rams touchdown.

Looking back, it appears the Redskins may have been gassed after the Dallas win. This team was on a high, excited to get on with their season on a high note, but in reality they may have punched themselves out. Versus the Texans the Redskins gave it all they had, offensively, but could not finish the deal. Today in St. Louis, they were primed for the knock-out.
