Derrick Dockery has been here since 2003 being draft by Steve Spurrier. Except for a two year stint in Buffalo, he has been a lifelong Redskin. Today, his tenue with the team ended along with Andre Carter. Ma’ake Kemoeatu is likely to be released on Thursday.

For Dockery, he had been penciled in as the pre-season starter but was releaced by Kory Lichtensteiger by week three. Despite being deposed, he remained well mannered and finished his run as a Redskin as a class act.

Andre Carter was also well liked by the media. He came from San Francisco where he felt out of place in their 3-4 scheme, hoping to fit in to Gregg Williams’s aggressive defensive style. He did well in his position and in 2009 posted 11 sacks.

Let’s look at the Pros and Cons of this potentially happening.

Pros:

He is 6’4″, 350 lbs and can play 3-4 NT or end

Rogers is a incredibly talented (and huge) individual when he is motivated and healthy

Ma’ake Kemoeatu stunk last year, Rogers would provide an immediate upgrade

He was a Pro-Bowler as recently as 2008, as a NT (3 Pro-Bowls overall)

Last July, Rogers was commended for reporting a drunk driver

Cons:

He will be 32 March 12

He’s not healthy (On IR for a broken leg in 2009, only started 1 game last year with nagging hip and ankle injuries)

His production is waning. His first year in Cleveland he had 76 tackles and 4.5 sacks, in 2009 he had 36 tackles and 2 sacks in 11 games, and in 2010 he only had 17 tackles and 2 sacks. (In case you were wondering, Kemoeatu had 29 tackles and 0 sacks in 14 games for the Skins)

He’s got off the field issues (2007 accusation of sexual assault and last spring was arrested for CARRYING A GUN INTO AN AIRPORT)

Per PFT.com:

The team announced the signing of Darrion Scott Tuesday, adding him to a mix that already includes recent additions Adam Carriker, Howard Green, Anthony Bryant, Maake Kemoeatu and Greg Peterson.

Let’s call this approach quantity over quality, which isn’t a bad idea when you are changing defensive schemes.

My initial guess, is that the Redskins want to just add depth as the line (both tackles and ends) are loaded. I personally do not think he is more than just a camp fodder, but stranger things have happened.
