Washington’s receiver position has been one in serious question over the years. Right now, one could say that the team does not have a “true” number one receiver, but that may not be necessary, as the team’s quarterback can get the ball to anyone.

The only receiver who has been consistent with the team over the years (as in stayed with the team through thick and thin, and has been in D.C. for a long time) is veteran Santana Moss. Moss is expected to make the roster and contribute.

I believe the following receivers will be on the Redskins’ 53-man roster come September. The ‘Skins just signed veterans Donte’ Stallworth and Devery Henderson. However, I believe one of those will not make the roster. The receivers currently on the team who I expect to make the team are below.

Pierre Garcon: Garcon missed much time due to injury in 2012, but he will make the roster without question and should retain the No. 1 position in 2013. He has all the physical tools to make big plays, as he did when he burst onto the scene in Week 1 last season with an 88-yard touchdown catch from Robert Griffin III.

Joshua Morgan: Like Garcon, he is also rehabbing from injuries, and will make the roster and should fill the role as the No. 2 receiver opposite Garcon. He has recently been burning defensive backs in practice and has the potential, like Garcon does, to contribute largely this season.

Santana Moss: The veteran could fill the role as a slot receiver who can contribute in certain situations, such as third downs and in the red zone. He still has some of his speed and will look to continue to establish chemistry with RGIII.

Aldrick Robinson: Robinson could be the biggest deep threat on the roster right now. Although not a complete lock to make the roster, he flashed in 2012, but I believe he has not reached his full potential. I want to see what will happen when he catches a slant, not when he goes deep – he can catch the pass, break a tackle, and score, just as Mike Wallace did to the Giants last year. It’s as simple as that.

Leonard Hankerson: Hankerson has huge hands and can also stretch the field. He could fill the role of a third receiver barring injury to any of the top 3 receivers on the team. His third year in D.C. could make or break his career in the city.

Devery Henderson: Acquiring Henderson provides the Redskins with another deep threat. He ran a 4.36 40-yard dash coming out of college, but some of that speed may have been lost with age. However, he, like Moss, still has some of that speed, and can contribute sparingly this year. I believe he will be one of the “on the bubble” players who will make the team.

I’m just as passionate about my team as anyone could be. If my team loses, I’m pretty much a zombie for the next 24 hours. The NFL on Sundays during the season makes or breaks my day. I don’t even fully recover from a loss until Wednesday. I have no problem telling people what I think of the game, or that my week has been downgraded by a loss. After this past weekend, I have probably been just as hard on Josh Morgan as anyone else. But when I read that <a href="http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8398834/washington-redskins-joshua-morgan-gets-death-threats-twitter"target="_blank">he had received death threats on his twitter account, I think the line had been crossed. When I read people are threatening his family, it made me think, “Have people just gone plain crazy?”

Football is a game. It’s an emotionally filled game. Any former player will tell you just how emotional the game is, and if you don’t play with it, you have lost that edge you need to be an elite player. Josh Morgan lost his cool, and let his emotions get the best of him on that fateful play. He realizes the mistake he made was his, and just how big of a mistake it was. Sure, send him complaints, “hate mail”, etc. But death threats? Isn’t that just completely hypocritical? The people that sent those tweets got a little too emotional, and lost their cool. However, what these people put on Morgan’s twitter account is a lot more serious than what Josh did. Like jail time serious if prosecutors really wanted to push this. Those people literally are making the same mistake Morgan did, but taking it to the next level of stupidity.

Actually what Josh Morgan did was a lot more acceptable. He didn’t threaten anyone’s life, and it was a split second loss of self control. Based on his immediate reaction, he knew immediately that he shouldn’t have thrown the ball at Finnegan. On the other hand, these tweeters, had the time and forethought to get their phone, find out Josh Morgan’s tweeter account, figure out how to cram a death threat into 160 characters and send. That wasn’t a reaction, but a thought out action. No excuse.

Now Josh is blowing off the tweets as nothing too serious, and he’s probably right. Most cyber bullies are too scared to really do anything in person, which is why they rely on cyber bullying. But that doesn’t excuse anyone for threatening Josh Morgan or his family when all he really did, was toss a leather ball at a fully protected player of a game school kids play everyday. For the record, Josh has done everything right since the incident, taking full credit for his actions, and vowing it won’t happen again.

What do you think? Some feel he should be able to take the heat for the play he made. Comment below.

Griffin III had just marched the Redskins into field goal range. Then came third down. RG3 hit Joshua Morgan a yard away from the first down. At this point, Joshua “I drank too much Captain” Morgan went brain dead. First he runs backwards, where falling down forward would have secured a first down. Then after coming up a yard short for a first down, Joshua decides it would be a good time to retaliate in what had become a chippy game. (The refs had really let this game get out of control at this point.) Captain Morgan comes up throwing a ball at the opposing team. Defendents on Judge Judy show more maturity and better decision making abilities. So not only did Joshua Morgan cost the Redskins a first down, but he cost them invaluable field position, and a chance to go into overtime. Facing a 4th and 16, Shanahan decided to go for the 62 year field goal that was very wide right and short by about 8 yards. Mike Shanahan needs to come up with some sort of disciplinary action concerning Captain Morgan.

Looking at the game as a whole, the passing defense is showing that it can be a liability at times. However, the bright spots far outweigh the negatives as the season moves on. RG3 is showing he is the real deal. He accounted for three TD’s, and only one turnover. He seemed poised throughout the game. Even in the pressure situation of coming back from behind a few different times on the road in the second half, he came through. I was very impressed with his composure, play and decisions. (This man is State Supreme court material.) The running game is for real. For the second game in a row, the Redskins were able to rush for over 150 yards. Do we dare say fantasy football players can stop hating Shanahan and play Alfred Morris next week? Fletcher, Kennington, and Hall continue to show they can be a solid core of players the defense can count on. At the end, Fletcher and Hall came up with a clutch key play to set up Griffin III and the offense.

So what are your thoughts of how today’s game went? I’m still encouraged that this team should be fighting for a playoff spot come the end of the season. Do you?
