The results thus far from this season cannot be completely measured up to the output of the players on the field, as much as people want to blame them. Yes, they are the ones out there and they must produce, but they are led by someone. That person gives them guidance based on their knowledge or study of the other team to make sure that the 11 guys on the field at that particular time complete their assignments successfully. It’s their responsibility to ensure that in each play, each individual is put in a position where their strengths are used best in order to help their team win. At the end of the day, much like the quarterback, the coaches are given credit for the win, and also get the 21 questions and blame in the event of a loss.

Just thinking back at some of the things I’ve seen over the season, I thought I’d take a minute to give my own personal evaluation on the four guys that run the show in Washington (hey, Mike says he’s been evaluating guys for the past two years straight… why can’t I evaluate them??):

Head Coach: Mike Shanahan

Last season, he came in and was forced to play cards he was dealt. He had to figure out how to work with the people he had inherited, even though he felt some (if not most) of them did not fit his scheme. He did not come in to Washington telling Redskins Nation that it was going to be a 4-5 year rebuild process (even though that’s what he told Dan Snyder: “If you don’t have the patience for five years, then don’t hire me.”). He came in, trading for Donovan McNabb (which also prompted Jason Campbell to ask to leave after he heard about the news from a reporter — not the team… many people report that he was put out, but wouldn’t you ask to leave too???). He told us, “We’re going to win NOW.” It hasn’t happened. I still would have felt more comfortable if he had told us the same thing he told Danny. All that being said, he has changed the culture of this team. He has an unorthodox way of working (somewhat dishonest at times in my opinion) but it got the locker room more disciplined, and got people to think and work together. Can’t be mad at that. He’s probably on the hot seat with half the fans, but he’ll be around. (more…)

After a promising 3-1 start, the Redskins have looked like the same under-achievers they have been for the past decade. Currently at 4-7, the season is already over, and the toughest part has yet to pass. With match-ups against the Patriots and Giants still on the schedule, things might get embarrassing, and most fans will want to tune out to next season. But what can we expect for next year? Here is a list of Redskins who will stay and who will go:

Stay

Roy Helu: After warming the bench for most of the season, Roy Helu looks to have earned the starting spot. Next season, however, he will be in a fierce competition with Tim Hightower to earn the starting nod. Either way, Helu will be around for a long time, and will continue to have great games

Adam Carriker: The former St. Louis defensive end is finally starting to come through for the ‘Skins. After a quiet season in 2010, Carriker is making tackles and closing up holes. Being that he is still young, the Redskins will want him around for a few more years

Sav Rocca: Despite his age (38), Sav Rocca is still one of the best punters in the league averaging over 42 yards per punt. Not only does punt well, but can also throw out a nasty hit. The Redskins stole Rocca from the Eagles this season, and will most likely stick with him for a few more years (more…)

As a Washington Redskins fan, things can sometimes get difficult… too difficult. They seem to always do well in the off-season then begin with some promise. Sometimes we win other times were not so lucky. Players and coaches come and go, seasons fly by, and opponents are always different. But one thing that never changes is our hate for Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys.

Its Cowboys week in Washington and nothing is more satisfying then to get a win against the inner-division rivals, being that this is the most anticipated game of the season for the Redskins faithful. Easily the most hated man in Washington D.C, Tony Romo has been battling the Redskins for a few seasons now. Jim Haslett’s defense loves nothing more than driving Romo to the ground, wiping his infamous smirk right off his baby-face. But no matter how hard we hit him, he always manages to squirm away like the little worm he is, making huge plays. Those huge plays have added up and given Tony Romo a 5-1 record against the ‘Skins, something that doesn’t sit well with the Redskins nation. In the most recent heartbreaker in Week 3, Romo and the Cowboys drove down the field in the final minutes to kick a game-winning field goal, their 6th of the night, and only source of points. Maybe had DeAngelo Hall been covering his man (Dez Bryant), instead of blitzing the injured QB, Romo wouldn’t have converted the 3rd and long to set up the win. I guess we’ll never know. All it left the Redskins with was a bitter taste in their mouth, and exposure to their weaknesses. (more…)
