Former Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell has been in the news more recently for issues with his personal life, but let’s not forget his professional career: He’s a free agent. The bigger question is where will he end up this spring for training camp. A lot of teams could use someone with his talent.

The obvious first choice is Oakland but the idea is kind of sketchy after last year’s transactions. Acquiring Terrelle Pryor in the supplemental draft, then trading two picks for a retired Carson Palmer just screams sketchy to me. To think they would extend themselves for JC after going all out for Palmer and not even give Pryor a chance just doesn’t seem like it will happen.

Indy? Don’t think so. You never know what Irsay is thinking though. I think they have their own QB issues though. And having the first pick in the draft doesn’t really warrant a reason to go after Jason, either. (more…)

Could Albert Haynesworth's absence actually be a blessing?

Better Off Gone? - Riggo's Rag - Riggo's Rag - A Washington Redskins Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

The perfect fit in this instance could be absence. All off season, the clamor along the defensive line and Redskins Park has been in regards to the Albert Haynesworth “no-show” situation. Many sides have chimed in absolutely slamming him for his actions. Likewise some have gone so far to defend him, including readers and comment makers on this site. It is clear he does not want to be here. Very clear. The silence, the unwillingness, it all makes perfect sense.

Haynesworth’s claims of wanting to “wreak havoc” and be a disruptive forces in the backfield, have been more words than talk. As a matter of fact, it has been all words. To his credit he did show up for the mandatory meeting prior to the onset of off season work outs, and that was it. He cited needing to get in better shape because he was not pleased with his results last year. His refusal to participate with his teammates is a gesture of sloth and entitlement. The Redskins have not had many players hold out from work outs or mini camp. Those players were either in hopes of renegotiating a contract or were looking to be traded. Haynesworth just got paid over $40 million dollars not too long ago, and has no reason to be griping. The blunders of the last regime was well documented, and going 4012 was not a cake walk either. But this is a new group of coaches, doing things differently. While his team is learning new nuances, he is probably sitting on a coach eating chips.

Does the team need this type of distraction? No, and in most cases this can be a poison. However, a point has been made that since Haynesworth is not there, he cannot spew his “malcontent” venom amongst his teammates. A divided locker room is always a weaker locker room. Thus was the case for Jason Campbell. Though he had many players that were in support of him, have some pro-Campbell and pro-McNabb teammates would not have been the most ideal situation.

As far as the 4-12 season goes, it is all over and it has been over, yet, Haynesworth appears to be hanging onto that pitiful season for the sole purpose to fuel his ammunition. This team is a better team with Haynesworth when he is a team player and willing to contribute. However, if he accomplishes the opposite, the Skins will actually be better off without him.

JaMarcus Russell can now begin campaigning for the greatest all time bust.

The Oakland Raiders have released former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell after three unproductive and highly paid seasons.

Senior executive John Herrera told The Associated Press the move was made Thursday and that “we wish him well.”

The decision comes less than two weeks after Oakland acquired Jason Campbell from Washington to take over at quarterback.

No can say they didn’t see this one coming.
