While you were sleeping, the Denver Broncos signed former Philadelphia Eagles CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to a one-year, $5 million contract.

Dec 9, 2012; Tampa FL, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (22) is tackled by Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (23) during the second half at Raymond James Stadium.
Cromartie seemed to be a possible fit for the Redskins with their thin secondary, but alas he is now joining Wes Welker on his way to Denver. Other notable signings were San Francisco S Dashon Goldson heading to Tampa Bay and even possibly CB Darrelle Revis (via trade with the Jets). The Redskins have yet to make an real moves in free agecy. Washington appears to be laying low until the market settles down, then possibly focusing on signing second and third-tier free agents. The team could also remain silent for free agency and try to fill these positions through the draft. With the current cap situation, either proposition would be difficult.

Here’s a list of the remaining recognizable names left in the free agent pool:

S Quintin Mikell (STL)

S Michael Huff (OAK)

<del>S LaRon Landry (NYJ)</del>

S Ed Reed (BAL)

<del>S Dashon Goldson (SF)</del>

S Charles Woodson (GB)

So Robert Griffin III to the Redskins isn’t as easy as we thought after all.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Washington Redskins have scheduled several meetings with Stanford star Andrew Luck over the next few weeks. The gatherings will take place on campus, and are most likely just precautionary meetings.

Last week, Jim Irsay tweeted that he requested a workout with Griffin, but the former Baylor Bear’s agent declined. Many sources within the league are also hinting that the Colts are showing interest in RG3, although nothing is confirmed.

Washington offensive-coordinator Kyle Shanahan has already met with Griffin to help him “learn the playbook”, and plans to meet several more times in the weeks leading to the draft.

There is no word on whether the Colts will attempt to meet with Robert Griffin III again.

Would you want to see Luck in Washington?

Credit: Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

In the world of sports, one is destined to hear or see something confusing at often times, causing them to ask themselves, in the words of the late-great Andy Rooney, “Did you ever wonder why?” Being a Washington Redskins fan, you all may, I mean do, know what I’m talking about. It seems like every day there is new drama we are dealing with, and sometimes we can’t decipher it. Each week, I will take the most mind-boggoling piece of Redskins news and ask myself and all who listen, “Did you ever wonder why?”

As the days go on, we become yet even closer to the 2012 NFL Draft, easily the most important draft for the Redskins in the past decade. Just as the thought of Robert Griffin III in burgandy and gold begins to set in, numerous reports of the Colts “undecided-ness” in Andrew Luck surfaced. The Colts also asked for a private work out with Griffin, who utimatly declined to the invitation.

In this week’s edition, I will discuss and analyze some of the comments(tweets) made by NFL experts regarding the subject, and also Indinapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.

The first tweet of the day is from Mr, Jim Irsay himself, regarding the fact the RG3 ignored his request to come work out for the team:

A Luck private workout 2day..we want 2b as thorough n disciplined n process of #1 pick..we wanted 2do private with RG3,but his agent said no

I believe this was the right decision for Griffin, who obviously knows that Luck’s name will most likley be called first later this month. By declining the work-out requested by the Colts, it also gives Redskins fans something to smile about. It shows that he may be content and/or happy with his projected landfall in Washington, as he should.

Adam Schefter took to twitter to explain why the Redskins weren’t getting a private work-out either:

Redskins never requested — and will not request — a private workout with RG3, feeling they saw what they needed at his pro day.

When Schefter reported this, I’m sure most of the Redskins were pleased with it. Washington insists that they saw everything the needed to at the combine and Baylor Pro Day. Asking a future franchise-player to throw passes and run around for an our is pointless when it’s already been done. If the Redskins or any other team really want to look at Griffin again, you better rest your eyes get out your Baylor game film.

SI’s Peter King recently wrote a story regarding the draft, and made a very interesting comment:

News item: Indianapolis owner Jimmy Irsay says the Colts wanted to work out quarterback Robert Griffin III and were denied by the quarterback’s agent. Meaning of news item: Absolutely nothing.

Even thtakes those comment take away from the thought that Griffen truly wants to be in Washington and not Indy, you have to agree with King. RG3 is going to make a lot of money next year and there is no reason for him to risk injury in a pointless throwing session with a team that will most likely defer to select him.

In my personal opinion, the Colts have had thier minds on Luck for way to long to back out now, despite all the rumors that they are interested in both.

With all of that being said and the possibilities and confusion swirling, I have one question left:

“Did you ever wonder why” Griffin denied the Indy work-out? Was Peter King right, or is RG3 hinting on something?
