Take THAT lame stream, PC apologists!!! Dan Snyder, the most beloved owner in the history of professional sports, has come out in support of the brand that is currently worth $1.6 billion! What guts! What nobility!

In an interview with USA Today‘s Erik Brady, Snyder quashed any rumors that the Redskins name would be changing under his watch:

“We will never change the name of the team. As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it’s all about and what it means, so we feel pretty fortunate to be just working on next season.”

When pushed about the possibility that he could lose a trademark lawsuit, Snyder added:

“We’ll never change the name. It’s that simple. NEVER — you can use caps.”

Perhaps I should not be using Twitter and Facebook as a metric for anything, but I am honestly surprised by the fervent support of Snyder’s comments. Not because I think most Redskins fans agree with my position, but because…what exactly did you expect Dan Snyder to say? It is in his best interest to stay with the status quo. When Snyder speaks in vague terms like “what it’s all about” and “what it means”, it’s clear he has no intention of engaging in an actual conversation about the issue. Snyder is simply engaging in shameless grandstanding in order to gain headlines and put an inconvenient controversy to rest.

It has been said that Snyder’s opinion is the only one that really matters on this issue. This is not entirely accurate. A number of events could force the owner to back away from his caps-filled language. The licensing lawsuit currently in front of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board could take away Snyder’s ability to exclusively market the team’s name. This is a major financial consideration, regardless of what Snyder says now. Millions of dollars are at stake. The NFL could also force Snyder to change the name of the team. Roger Goodell has expressed ambivalence thus far toward the issue, but could take a stand if he feels the negative publicity is hurting the league. While Snyder may want to keep the name forever, circumstances may force his hand in the future. He’s certainly changed his mind before.

Fans of the Redskins name, enjoy a pyrrhic victory tonight. At the end of the day, you will have to reconcile the feeling of being in agreement with Dan Snyder. My conscious is clear.

With the second pick, in 2012 NFL draft, the Washington Redskins select….

You can finish the sentence.

The only thing keeping Robert Griffin III out of Washington right now is time, and some fans cannot contain their excitement. The Redskins are expected to select RG3 with the second overall pick in this years draft, making it the biggest draft pick in recent history in D.C. But we as fans are forgetting about the other needs that the ‘Skins still have. One thing you need to be a successful team in the NFL is balanced talent, and right now that’s exactly what the Redskins are lacking.

Here is a 7-round mock draft that will touch every Washington need plus more:

Round 1, #2: Robert Griffin III, Baylor QB

.

No explanation needed for this pick. Mike Shanahan’s career will thrive or die on this selection

Round 3, #69: Phillip Blake, Baylor C

In a thin class of offensive centers, there is a slight chance that Blake will not survive a draft fall this big. If he is around, however, expect the Redskins to bring in RG3′s former snapper. They desperately need help on the O-line, and if Blake were to start this season, he could take the pressure off Will Montgomery and allow him to return to Guard position, where he belongs

Round 4, #102: Chase Minnifield, Virgina CB

I really see this pick happening for the Resskins. They defiantly want to nab a decent defensive-back while they can, and Minnifeild would be a steal. In his play at Viginia, he showed great potential and discipline, and is the right guy for a young team.

Round 4, #109: Ryan Miller, Colorado OG

If the Redskins were able to pull this off, they will have made a great decision. At 6’8 and 295, Ryan Miller dominated at Colorado, where he only allowed 5 sacks in 3,320 career plays. With RG3 aboard, it’s time to start thinking about some serious insurance

Round 5, #141: George lloka, Boise State S

At 6’4 and 222, this Boise State product will be a great addition to a patched up Washington secondary. lloka has great ball instinct and is a great player in a shallow pool of safeties, making it questionable that he’ll last until the fifth-round. If he does however, the Redskins could pair him up with pro-bowler Brandon Meriweather in the deep secondary

Round 6, #173: Tom Compton, South Dakota OL

The line still needs help, and after a year of learning the ropes, this could be a great addition to help protect Griffin III. In 2009, Compton started 10 games at right tackle, helping the rush unit average over 400 yards per game

Round 7, #213: Jeremy Ebert, Northwestern WR

Although the Redskins made upgrades in wide-receivers this off-season by adding Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan, the unit is not yet solid. Ebert brings in raw talent that, with time, could develop into a major threat downfeild

Many of you may be wondering why I stayed clear from ILB, unlike many other mock drafts. I think London Fletcher will be around for three more years, and has solid back-ups in Perry Riley and Lorenzo Alexander. Washington needs to worry about their week secondary and protecting the franchise QB from Baylor, and also surrounding him with talent, raw or not. There is no reason why that shouldn’t be a main focus, and is exactly what should happen.

Bruce Allen and the front office know what they have to do to win this draft, and it’s up to them and owner Dan Snyder to make that happen.

Tune in Thursday night to watch history as the Redskins select Robert Griffin III to lead the future.

During this hectic off-season, there have been many transactions taking place. Free Agency is a very busy time of the year and is far from over. So far, the Redskins have been making some key pickups that definitely have the chance to improve the Franchise and hopefully lead to a winning season.

After the recent Tim Tebow trade, I have some advice for Dan Snyder: Do NOT pick up a high-profile ‘backup’ for ANY position. Having a star player warm the bench will only lead to controversy and unnecessary media attention. The Jets’ starting QB, Mark Sanchez, has to know the pressure is on. The relentless NY media will be calling for Tebow as soon as Sanchez screws up, which can lead to a divisive locker room and tension between the players. Regardless of the Jets organization announcing that Tebow will be a “wild cat QB” I can assure you that, if Sanchez does not lead them to a 3-0 start, Tim Tebow will be starting by week 4!

So I am hoping the Redskins do not make the same mistake and put any unnecessary pressure on any of our key starters by bringing in a star player to play ‘backup’. This might seem like a no-brainer to any sensible General Manager, but as we can see, sometimes GMs do make mistakes.
