Breaking News: Colts tell Andrew Luck they will draft him 1st overall

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Indianapolis Colts have told Andrew Luck that they will draft him with the number one pick next Thursday, at the 2012 NFL Draft.

As always, Schefter reported via twitter:

No great surprise, it’s what most expected, but Colts have told Andrew Luck they will take him with the No. 1 overall pick, per NFL source.

All though this comes as no big surprise, Redskins fans can breathe easy knowing that Robert Griffin III will now officially become the teams franchise quarterback they have been waiting for.

Redskins 2012: Manning’s arm now the issue

As the 2012 NFL off-season kicks off, so do the rumors. One of the biggest rumors so far is Peyton Manning will be released from the Colts and picked up by the Redskins. Some believe it, and some won’t take it for a second. Despite all of the talk, new reports around Indy are breaking, saying that although Manning’s neck is much better, his arm is now the biggest concern. The future Hall of Famer is reportedly lacking zip on his throwing arm, something that helps Peyton rise above competition. But these reports are not yet confirmed.

2012 Redskins: Huge turn-around always a possibility in the NFL

As seen in the past couple of years, some teams have been able to turn around their programs in the blink of an eye, some a few years. Teams have gone from weak forces to dominant powerhouses with a few scheme changes, and who’s to say that the ‘Skins can’t make that happen in Washington? Who’s to say the Redskins won’t be contenders in 2012, even though they had the 6th worst record in the league last season? Some don’t realize, but everything is possible. Here are a few dramatic turn-arounds the NFL has witnessed in the past 13 seasons:

1999 Colts: This is an obvious one, but something similar could happen this year in DC. The previous season the Colts had gone 3-13, and rookie Peyton Manning couldn’t get any help. With a few personnel changes, the Colts have become one of the most dominant teams in the NFL, immediately getting a 13-3 record the following season. Since that change in Indy, 2001 and 2011 are the only two seasons they failed to enter the play-offs

2006 Saints: In 2005, New Orleans was hit with disaster in the form of Hurricane Katrina (Something I lived through in MS). The Saints played their home games at LSU, and they were just absolutely awful at 3-13. The following season, the Saints brought in rookie head-coach Sean Payton, un-proven Drew Brees, and a monster RB Reggie Bush. They proved to be deadly, going 10-6 before falling in the NFC championship game to the Chicago Bears. That story just goes to show how easily a few position changes, can do to a team, as the Saints brought home the Lombardi Trophy in 2009

2011 49ers: This one is the most recent, and quite frankly I believe it’s the biggest turn-around in the History of the NFL. Although they didn’t have the worst record last year at 6-10, they defiantly made huge strides to the future, and showed tons of talent and potential in the process. Veteran Alex Smith was finally a hero, former Redskin Carlos Rogers was having a break-out season, and Vernon Davis proved to be the coke-machine on legs he is made out to be. But how did all this happen? A change of coaching and play-calling. Jim Harbaugh came in and changed the entire play book, and it worked. Maybe we’re just one play-caller away from a Superbowl, who knows?

The bottom line is change is evident in Washington, and hopefully it will be for the good. A few players and new coaches can go a long way, just as these teams have proved in previous seasons. Now, let’s sit back and see what are Redskins can do
