#1 – Indy
Needs: The next Peyton Manning.
Predicted Pick: Andrew Luck. Yes, RG3 is turning heads, and Luck was the runner up for the Heisman for the second year in a row, but hey… Indy has already been casing this guy long enough… seems they have their mind made up.

#2 – Minnesota
Needs: This is a team that has the 16th ranked offense in the NFL… not terrible but they could use some help in the secondary. Team is tied with Indy for dead last in the league with only 6 interceptions and 27th in pass defense giving up nearly 270 yards per game in the air. Not to mention, the team is 30th in the league in points given up per game at 28.0, with more than 19 pts coming in the air.
Predicted Pick: Morris Claiborne. I think they’ve kinda decided they’re set at QB, but they do have other needs. (more…)

The first three picks in the draft are pretty set. Indy will definitely get the first pick. St. Louis should close out the number two pick. The third pick should go to Minnesota, especially after they lose to the Skins at FedEx (knocking on wood). But if the Skins win that game, it should put them at no less than 5-11, knocking them down into the same record that Cleveland and Carolina could have at the end of the season. The Panthers’ last three games are vs. Houston, Tampa Bay and New Orleans… it’s possible that they lose all 3 and fall to 4-12, locking up the fourth pick. Lucky for us, they don’t need a QB.

But then there’s the Browns. They need quite a bit. And with QB’s like RGIII, Barkley and even Landry Jones that are projected to be still hanging around at that point in the draft, it could benefit them to pick any one of them up. They have so many holes, you just don’t know what they could do. And with their last three opponents being Arizona, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, I don’t know if they move past 4 wins. They could be above Washington.

So while everyone in DC is running around talking about who we will pick up at #4 or #5, they’d better be praying we get it. And they’d better pray that Griffin is available and Kyle has the sense to draft him (that’s who’s really running the offensive show guys… don’t be fooled.)

All Blackstreet references aside, in D.C. the money paid out by Dan Snyder has almost never equaled the play on the field or the love and respect received from fans. If you think about the Redskins right now, and the players that most fans love and adore, who are they? A general consensus can probably be reached on Chris Cooley, Brian Orakpo, DeAngelo Hall, Mike Sellers, Brandon Banks, Phillip Daniels (especially after this week), London Fletcher and the list could go on. Most of the guys I just mentioned were brought in either through the draft or free agency in “regular” deals. They aren’t here as a result of a blockbuster trade or a 100 million dollar contract (or a new $80 million contract). The Redskins problem has been, as many of us know, trying to buy championships. In the NFL big dollars don’t necessarily equate with wins.

Do the best players in the NFL generally get paid more than the average? Yes, of course. But my issue is with Danny just bringing in guys who were great within their own team and expecting them to just magically adapt to the Redskins. Shall we make a list? (more…)
