On Thursday, league sources announced they have ended their investigation on the Washington Redskins concerning the “bounty program” scandal that rocked the NFL earlier this year, due to lack of evidence that a program that rewarded players for dirty hits ever existed.

The NFL found the New Orleans Saints guilty of a bounty program, and the team was slapped with fines and major suspensions. Head Coach Sean Payton was suspended the entire season for not stopping the program when he was alerted, as was General Manger Mickey Loomis, and assistant head coach Joe Vitt. Former defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, was suspended indefinitely for his role in “leading” the program.

Several former Redskins players came forward anonymously saying Gregg Williams ran a bounty program while in Washington in the mid-2000′s. Due to the fact that some of these accusations were very detailed, the league was forced to also launch an investigation on Washington.

The Buffalo Bills were also cleared of any wrong-doing. Neither team will face any punishment from the leauge.

Gregg Williams will be in New York today to speak about his “bounty system” that he implemented in several places during his NFL career as a defensive coordinator and head coach. Everybody knows about his system in New Orleans, but what you may not know is about his days in Tennessee, Jacksonville, Washington and Buffalo. This is what the NFL would like to discuss with Williams.

The New Orleans Saints are now looking at possible loss of draft picks, fines and suspensions. What’s hard to tell is if any of the former teams previous to the Saints will face any action from the commissioner. Former Redskins head coach and Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs has already said that he knew nothing of what Williams was allegedly doing on defense during their time together in DC.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out and whether or not the Redskins will suffer at the hands of the NFL.
