This is the first of many mocks, which have become so popular across the blogosphere in recent years. For our Washington faithful we have here the first ten overall picks of the 2012 NFL Draft as mocked by Riggo’s Rag with the help of it’s Fansided NFL affiliates. It’s never too early to decide your future.

Andrew Luck will go #1 overall [Chris Morrison-US PRESSWIRE

1st Overall Selection – Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Standford

- It’s safe to say that with Jim Irsay announcing the Colts will take Luck, that well, they will. Peyton will be looking for a new home in all likelihood.

The Redskins must do everything they can to get to #2 [Brendan Maloney-US PRESSWIRE

2 – Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

- The Redskins fans and media have been toying with ideas such as Matt Flynn or Peyton Manning through free agency. There are also rumors that they will do something similar to 2011 and create a million picks out of a few or even go after Brandon Weeden from Oklahoma State. I don’t buy it this year. (more…)

One thing I liked about this year’s draft class was Mike Shannahan and Jim Haslett’s emphasis on stopping the run. Not only did the Redskins address their run defense in selecting Ryan Kerrigan and Jarvis Jenkins (both heralded run stoppers) with their first two picks, but they also appear to have found another run stuffer, and a true blue collar, workhorse kind of guy in their selection of NT Chris Neild of West Virginia, a 2010 1st team ALL Big East selection. Pauline seems to be surprised that he was available for the Redskins to select with the second to last pick in the draft . . . .

Chris Neild/NT/Washington/Round 7/No. 253: The fact Neild was the second-to-last player selected is mind-blowing. He’s a 320-pound slugger who brings his lunch pail to work every day and is a prospect coaches will love. Don’t be surprised if he’s starting by the end of his rookie season.

It’s been hard to say this recently but this appears to be a pretty great move by the Redskins. Coach wasn’t sold on Gabbert and thankfully didn’t freak out and pull the trigger when he was sitting there at 10. The Redskins were able to trade back 6 spots with the Jacksonville Jaguars and picked up a second round pick in the deal as well (#10 for #16 and #49). The Redskins need young, talented bodies and picked up another chance to get an immediate contributer with pick 49. The Skins used pick 16 to snatch Purdue OLB Ryan Kerrigan, a hardworking, turnover machine, born and bred in Indiana. While he may not have the name recognition or prestige of other players that were still on the board, Kerrigan is a player, who will immediately improve this defenses pass rushing AND run stopping ability. The key to what possibly makes Kerrigan a better fit for the Redskins than a Robert Quinn is his physical ability to help out in the running game as well as provide a pass rush.

Let’s take a look at some of the many benefits of this pick…
