Albert Haynesworth appeared on 106.7 the Fan D.C. with the Kevin and Rock show. This is his first public interview since the standoff events of this off-season. Haynesworth said all the right things, and mentioned he and Mike Shanahan were getting “better” with their coach-player relationship.

“I guess in this world we don’t have a lot of people with backbones,” he said. “Just because somebody pay you money don’t mean they’ll make you do whatever they want. I mean, that means everything is for sale. I mean, I’m not for sale. Yeah, I signed the contract and got paid a lot of money, but just because, that don’t mean I’m for sale or a slave or whatever. We agreed upon coming to that [contract] that I’d play defensive tackle and not nose guard and all that other stuff. I was signing with a 4-3 team. It was a lot of promises and stuff like that, but now, it’s been better, dealing with Haslett, and we run a lot of 4-3 stuff and you’ll see that tomorrow.”

Donovan McNabb appeared with the Sports Junkies this morning on 106.7 FM WJFK. He and his parents are doing a radio gauntlet of interviews and taking time to plug awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure via the website 1in3people.com. In the interview he touched on a few things mainly his lack of contract extension and Albert Haynesworth.

In regards to his contact situation, he felt that there was no rush. This has been the sentiment during the whole offseason, that both side would take their time and there was no need to rush this. Despite the calm demeanor McNabb and the Redskins appear to be showing in regards to this, it actually seems to also be troubling to fans. The fear is he may not last this season, whether it be due to injury or poor play. Neither of those factors are out of the question. McNabb has shown in the past that he can get hurt, and frequently during a season. The worst possible scenario that may occur is the line is as dysfunctional as it has been and he is not able to play without getting consistently harassed, and eventually gets injured. That’s the worst case scenario. Should he not sign a deal before the season begins, that is the best way I can predict a one and done for McNabb in DC.

As for Haynesworth, McNabb has mentioned that he has attempted to text Haynesworth, and that he has been responded to. He felt like Haynesworth, who is training on his own, would attend a camp sooner than later and would be in shape. This seemed, to me, like a canned answer and just like what every other player has answered in regards to Haynesworth. It is apparent that they are tired of being asked these questions. Unfortunately for them, they will continue to be asked these questions until Haynesworth can answer them for himself.
