News, News, and More News

A lot going on yesterday and today.

First, yesterday Redskins.com said Laron Landry is now the starter at SS. Wow, given how long it took Taylor and Rocky to start this is just mind boggling.  I guess there is no reason to worry about the short hold out. I can’t wait to see him this Saturday against the Steelers.  I’ll have more on this after the game when we see how he does.

The next is the good news that Chris Samuels is healing fast. The Washington Post said he hopes to be back for the last preseason game. Even if he can’t get back for a quick tune up, at least it seems pretty certain he’s back for the opener.

Unfortunately, in the same article coach Gibbs said that Todd Wade would likely miss the game on Saturday.  With the release of Will Whitacker, Mike Pucillo is taking his place.  Yeah, I’ve never heard of him either.

There’s this story from the Washington Times about Santana Moss and how he keeps himself healthy. With all due respect to Ryan O’Halloran given Moss’s injury problems last year I’d like to see him play 16 games this year before I declare some ice bags are the secret to longevity in the NFL.  Frankly, I couldn’t help but read it in light of my post yesterday about local injections in the NFL. Either way, there are some nice quotes at the end of the column about building rapport with Jason Campbell.

Then there is this bombshell also from the Washington Post. Apparently, Mark Brunell might not even be the #2 QB.  For those like me who think at this point Mark’s best service to the Redskins would be as a coach this is great news.  But I can’t help but think that even with the pay cut he took in the off season if we don’t think he’s better than Todd Collins then we’d have been better off cutting him and developing a young QB in the 3rd slot.  I assume Jordan Palmer is heading to the practice squad, but if Brunell isn’t as good as Collins, I’m willing to be he isn’t as good as Casey Bramlet either. I believe in respecting your vets.  I believe in giving these guys a dignified way to go out.  But not at the expense of putting the best 53 guys on the roster.  We should have made him an offer for the coaching staff or the front office.

And just for giggles there’s this story from the Chicago Bears website. A brief excerpt:

Mike Brown and Adam Archuleta have only been Bears teammates for a few months, but it seems like the veteran safeties have played together for years.

“Communication-wise we don’t have to make it obvious with things we’re doing,” Brown said. “We can just look at each other and pretty much know what each other’s doing. That’s the good thing about teaming up with someone who knows the system. We know each other’s body movements already.”

That article isn’t really much different than this one from April 6th of last year on Redskins.com.

Enjoy, Bears. :)
