Coming into the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins had filled all of their needs. They were able to take the best player available, and they thought that was Josh Harvey-Clemons.

With things winding down in Philadelphia, the Washington Redskins made their first of two seventh round picks. After trading down with the Minnesota Vikings in the Chase Roullier trade from earlier, the Redskins were able to land Josh Harvey-Clemons with the No. 230 overall pick. It was solid pick by the team, as Harvey-Clemons has upside and could make the team.

The major thing that stands out about Harvey-Clemons is his terrific length. He stands at 6-foot-4 and has very long arms and legs. He could stand to add a bit of strength, but that length will allow him to be a ball-hawks who will be able to get his hands on a lot of passes.

With the Redskins, Harvey-Clemons figures to be a depth guy who needs to develop. He is pretty raw, but is a good value in the seventh round. He could start his career on special teams, thanks to his decent tackling ability, but he needs to do a lot more before he can be considered for a role in the secondary.

Harvey-Clemons may have a tough time making the Redskins final roster. If the team keeps five safeties, it would be assumed that Will Blackmon, Deshazor Everett, and rookie Montae Nicholson will backup starters D.J. Swearinger and Su’a Cravens. That means that Harvey-Clemons could have to spend a year on the practice squad, unless the Redskins make a surprise move with one of the other players.

No matter what, this is a good seventh round pick. Harvey-Clemons has great length, and at the very least, he could be a guy that has a chance at blocking kicks for a special teams unit.
