The Washington Redskins could use some more playmakers on defense. Adoree Jackson could be an option for the team that some are sleeping on.

The Washington Redskins had a very weak defense during the 2016 season. There is no denying it. Despite adding Josh Norman to their team, the defense had issues in the front seven and the regression of No. 2 cornerback Bashaud Breeland led to issues with the unit. As a result, the team has been focusing on upgrading the defense this offseason, but they still have some holes.

Most notably, the holes on the team’s defense lie at the nose tackle position and at the No. 2 cornerback position. While Breeland has been a solid cornerback in the past, there is no guarantee that he will bounce back in 2017. The Redskins will look to add some competition for him in the 2017 NFL Draft, and USC cornerback Adoree Jackson could be a strong option with their first round pick.

Jackson is a highly athletic player who thrived at USC in his three seasons there. Jackson was a starter for a majority of his time with the team, but no season was better than the one he put together in 2016. As a junior, Jackson notched a whopping five interceptions and recorded a career high in tackles with 55. He also was a weapon in the return game, and was truly a threat to take it to the house every time he touched the ball.

At the NFL Combine, Jackson continued to impress with his athleticism. He ran a 4.42 second 40 yard dash and notched a 36 inch vertical jump. Jackson looked really good in everything that he did, and proved that he has what it takes to make it to the next level.

As the NFL Draft draws nearer, Jackson’s stock is likely to trend upward. While he was considered to be a late first rounder not too long ago, Jackson seems to be rising into top 20 consideration. His playmaking ability is intriguing to a lot of teams, and had it not been for an injury he suffered in the Rose Bowl, he may have climbed up even faster.

The Redskins would love to have Jackson. He could potentially be the No. 2 cornerback for the team but if not, he could lock down the problematic slot cornerback position that plagued the Redskins in 2016. Jackson could also help out the kick return game which would take some pressure off Jamison Crowder and Chris Thompson.

At the end of the day, Jackson is just another option for the Redskins first round pick. He could end up being one of the strongest players available. He will join the team’s mini big board for the No. 17 pick, that likely includes Haason Reddick and Dalvin Cook as well.
