The Washington Redskins have added another offensive lineman to their roster in John Kling. He is more likely to be a practice squad player than anything else.

On Thursday afternoon, the Washington Redskins made another free agent move. After adding Zach Brown earlier in the week, the move they made on Thursday was a much lesser move in the grand scheme of things. They agreed to a deal with John Kling, a former Chicago Bears preseason signee, to be a depth offensive tackle to them.

More from Riggo's Rag

Kling is a 6-foot-8 tackle that played his college football at Buffalo. He was a longtime starter for the team, and has the size and potential to be a contributor at the NFL level. That said, he is extremely raw and has a lot of development left to go before he can make the Redskins roster.

The Redskins already have two great starting tackles in Trent Williams and Morgan Moses. In addition to this, they have a solid backup tackle in Ty Nsekhe and a high upside athlete in Vinston Painter. The four of them seem likely to make the final roster, so Kling will have to make enough of an impact to get onto the practice squad.

At the same time, Kling could end up being a surprising pickup. If he can really develop his skill set and learn how to use his 320 pound frame, then he could have an impact for the team as a depth player. He could actually be similar to Nsekhe, who broke into the league thanks to his huge frame and athletic upside. With the right coaching, Kling could be a future backup for the team.

For now, this move will have very little impact on the Redskins. However, in the future Kling could end up being a decent backup. There is little downside to adding him, and it will be interesting to see if he can secure a spot on the team’s practice squad.
