In a recent piece for Time, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie sounded off on Washington and told them to act like an NFL team. However, this was in reference to the political climate in Washington, not the Redskins franchise.

The sports landscape nearly came to a boiling point on Friday night. An article was released by Time.com that was written by Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie . The title was “Philadelphia Eagles Owner: It’s Time for Washington to Act Like an NFL Team.” At a glance, many thought that Laurie was making a comment about the current state of the Washington Redskins franchise. However, he was merely discussing his views on the political state in the nation’s capital. CSN’s Rich Tandler was quick to point this out on Twitter:

In the article, Lurie discusses the forces that he believes are changing society, and described the current state of the nation as such:

"We are simultaneously experiencing a dysfunctional jolt to all that is political, cultural, social and economic. In this harsh environment, the real problems we face, the basic human needs that are unmet, become tools to divide us instead of causes to rally around. The very quality of human life — that most precious, wondrous and fragile experience of discovery — becomes the unwanted victim of our evolution into the abyss of spiraling dysfunction."

Not once in the article does Lurie mention the Redskins. However, given the current state of the team, some thought that he was taking a jab at his divisional rival.

This would be a sensible assumption. The Redskins are currently in disarray, as they parted ways with their general manager, have potentially alienated their franchise quarterback, and have lost countless players in free agency. They will continue on for the near future with president Bruce Allen and owner Daniel Snyder running the show, and that could be a disaster. Many talking heads and media outlets have pointed out the team’s dysfunction, and that is what led to many thinking this article was about that.

Still, there was obviously no intent by Lurie to try and attack the Redskins franchise. He was just saying what he thought of the political scene. The title was just misinterpreted by those who only glanced at it and did not read the article. The Internet almost got caught up in a non-existent aspect of the story, but that has now been cleared up. No harm, no foul.

That said, it may have been fun for the two owners to get into a beef this offseason. Then, the divisional rivalry would have really heated up and could have been even more interesting in 2017. Regardless, the Redskins-Eagles games will always been exciting, and we here at Riggo’s Rag would like to see a couple of Washington wins in 2017.
