The thought is crazy. Could Washington Redskins Quarterback Kirk Cousins and Wide Receiver Pierre Garcon go to the San Francisco 49ers?

San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has made it pretty clear that he wants someone for a long-term plan. Kirk Cousins is a perfect fit for that vision. In addition, Garcon is a favorite target of Cousins, so if he had to leave, he would probably go with the guy that gets him the ball right?  While there is a plethora of speculation surrounding the Redskins’ free agents, this by far is the most interesting of predictions.

The 49ers could mess around and become a better version of the Washington Redskins out West, and that would be painful to watch.  To add more fuel to this flame, even NFL.com thinks Garcon is a good match:

"“…Garcon fits the bill as a dependable veteran who knows Shanahan’s system from their days together in Washington. Garcon and Torrey Smith would comprise a solid starting duo for the 49ers‘ quarterback-to-be-named-later…”"

A Cousins/Garcon Combo out West:  Why this could work:

  1. Pierre Garcon was a top target for Cousins in 2016. He targeted him 116 times. Garcon caught 79 for 1,041 yards. He averaged 13 yards per catch.
  2. The 49’ers top receiver, Jeremy Kerley, a top target (115 times),  turned his catches into 667 yards. He averaged around 10 yards a catch. Garcon could compliment him easily. Yes. I ignored Torrey Smith.

Redskins GM Scot McCloughan is known for his unbiased approach with draft picks. If everyone leaves, he may not have that option this year. This would set the West up for a rising like no other in the NFL and would bring back shades of Montana/Rice if those two made it work. Wow, how about that comparison? It’s a stretch, but it could happen.
