The race for NFC East supremacy is heating up after three weeks. It looks like the Philadelphia Eagles may end up being the team to beat in the coming weeks.

After three weeks, the picture in the NFC East is getting a little bit clearer. While there was no real contender through the first few games of the season, it appears as though there will be one moving forward. The surprising Philadelphia Eagles are going to be the team to beat for the rest of the season.

The Eagles have a 3-0 record after three weeks, but they were able to get their first signature win of the season on Sunday. The team absolutely demolished the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 34-3. Carson Wentz has looked absolutely phenomenal at the start of his NFL career, and he is definitely the future of the franchise for the team. He has not turned the ball over despite throwing 96 passes. His efficiency has been key and it will continue to lead the Eagles against tougher competition.

Helping out Wentz’s cause is the terrific defense that Jim Schwartz is running. Schwartz is the best defensive coordinator in the NFL. He is utilizing the team’s strong seven man front to lead the unit. Although the secondary is lacking in talent, Schwartz’s use of the front seven is making their job easier and as a result, they are playing elite defense. If the unit can continue to succeed, then they will be able to carry the Eagles to the postseason.

After the Eagles, there really is a three team logjam for who the second best team is. The New York Giants (2-1) were widely considered to be the best team in the division, but their loss against the Washington Redskins (1-2) left a lot of questions unanswered. The team has no running game, and Odell Beckham Jr. is not going to be able to carry the offense. The team has weapons, but they need to make sure that their defense can hold up. Right now, their linebacker corps is a little weak, so that needs to improve for them to succeed in the future.

For the Redskins, they seem to have improved their problems. Kirk Cousins played very well in the game and really looks like he may have regained his form. If he can continue his strong performance against the Cleveland Browns, then the team should be in shape to contend. The only real weakness for the team is their poor run defense, so if they can improve that then they will be in good enough shape.

The final team to watch is the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are 2-1 to start the season, but they have a lot of upside down the stretch. They are without countless starters on defense, and Tony Romo will return, so they are in good shape long term. They may not be able to beat out their competitors down the stretch though if Romo ends up struggling upon return.

At the end of the day, it looks like the Eagles are going to be the team to beat early. That could change, as the other three teams are within striking distance. It will be interesting to see if any team pulls away from the pack in the future.
