Will the Washington Redskins Trade Down?

When April 30th finally arrives, the Washington Redskins and GM Scot McCloughan will be looking to make a deal in the 2015 NFL Draft. They currently own the 5th pick in the first round and a trade down is highly possible.

The two QBs expected to be taken early in the first are Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. Winston is likely to be taken before the Redskins pick and despite some rumors to the contrary, I don’t believe McCloughan would have Mariota rated as one of the top 5 prospects.

Mariota could be a good target to get other teams to trade up to the 5th spot for if he is still there as could wide receivers Kevin White or Amari Cooper.  There are really no good options among offensive linemen to take at #5 and that is what makes trading down so appealing for the Redskins.

While a trade down for the Redskins is in the cards, we may not see anything materialize with it until draft day.  But one thing is certain, right now the Redskins have more needs than draft picks and that’s something that needs to be rectified.
