Redskins vs. Buccaneers – Game Preview and Prediction

Washington Redskins  – 2-1

Tampa Bay Buccaneers  - 1-2

Redskins vs. Buccaneers.  Most of the Redskins starters won’t play in this game so therefore it’s left for the reserves to try to finish the preseason strong.   However, it seems that Head coach Jay Gruden was tempted to play some of his first unit offense as they have yet to score a touchdown in the preseason and quarterback Robert Griffin III has struggled in executing the new offense.

The Buccaneers will also sit most of their starters and backup quarterback Mike Glennon will start for them.  Glennon was the starter last season for the Buccaneers but new coach Lovie Smith wanted more experience at the position so he signed veteran Josh McCown to be the starter.  However Glennon had a solid rookie season last year and should provide a good challenge.

The Redskins have several position battles still going on particularly at backup running back, kicker, and outside linebacker.  Running back Chris Thompson is expected to make his return in this game after missing the last two with an ankle injury.  He’s battling Evan Royster, Silas Redd, and Lache Seastrunk for the privilege of backing up Alfred Morris.

The Buccaneers will have several players fighting for spots on the 53 man roster as well so this game should be competitive.  Redskins backup quarterback Kirk Cousins will get another chance to showcase his abilities in this game.  Apparently Colt McCoy will start and play the whole game.  And he will have the above stable of running backs at his disposal as well as standout preseason receivers Aldrick Robinson, rookie Ryan Grant, and Nick Williams.

I like the Redskins reserve players better than I like the Bucs, so I expect the Redskins to win their final preseason game.  And hopefully there will be no major injuries so the Redskins can come into the regular season in relative good health.  As that’s the most important thing.    Redskins vs. Buccaneers
