Redskins vs. Buccaneers. The Washington Redskins will play on the road at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night and backup quarterback Kirk Cousins will have another opportunity to showcase his talents. This time he will more than likely start at quarterback for the Redskins as normal starter Robert Griffin III will not play in the game.
Cousins has played well this preseason and his performance has sparked some fans and media pundits to suggest that he should supplant Griffin as the Redskins starter. Although Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has stated from the beginning that RGIII is the starter that hasn’t stopped Cousins from going out and doing everything in his power to improve his game.
He has looked sharp and purposeful in his decision-making and seems very comfortable in directing Gruden’s offense. And while Kirk Cousins may not end up being the starting quarterback in Washington, he does give the Redskins a very good option as a backup and could start if necessary.
Also, another good performance against the Bucs might enhance Cousins trade value for the Redskins as other teams like the St. Louis Rams might be in the market for another quarterback with the injury to Sam Bradford. So even though it’s only the last preseason game for the Redskins, it’s still a big game for Cousins and another chance to show what he can do. Redskins vs. Buccaneers
