Redskins vs. Ravens - Game Preview and Prediction

Redskins vs. Ravens – Game Preview

Washington Redskins  – 2-0

Baltimore Ravens  - 2-0

Redskins vs. Ravens.  The Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens are two teams coming off of disappointing 2013 seasons following winning seasons in 2012.  The Ravens won the Super Bowl and then experienced the super bowl slump last year going 8-8 and missing the playoffs.

While the Redskins won the NFC East and then came back with one of the leagues worst records in 2013 at 3-13.  And both teams fortunes last season seemed to match the performance of their star quarterbacks.  Baltimore’s Joe Flacco went from being Super Bowl MVP to among the league leaders in interceptions.

And the Redskins Robert Griffin III went form being rookie of the year to seeing his completion percentage drop and his interception totals rise.  However, it wasn’t all their fault.  Flacco played behind a shaky offensive line and lacked play makers on offense, while RGIII came back off a torn ACL and had very little offseason practice and no play in the preseason.

But both teams need their quarterbacks to have good seasons if either are to return to the playoffs. However, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has also had to deal with major controversy surrounding his star running back Ray Rice and his suspension over domestic violence.

Rice will miss the first two weeks of the season but some question if the suspension was long enough.  However, Harbaugh seems to have kept the team focused so far this preseason.  New Redskins head coach Jay Gruden’s offseason hasn’t been filled with as much distraction as Harbaugh’s, but his task is still the same.  To get his team out of the funk of last season and winning again.

The Redskins had too many turnovers and inconsistent play from their quarterbacks last week so that’s something Gruden will want the team to work on.  Also, the Redskins still have battles going on for roster spots and some of the roles that players will play this season still need to be determined.

This will be the first road game of the preseason for the Redskins so not being at home may have an effect on their performance.  However, I still expect the Redskins to win this game even though it’s not a priority in the preseason.  They have more depth on the second and third string and some of the Ravens starters in the secondary won’t play.  So advantage Redskins.       Redskins vs. Ravens
