Redskins preseason Rookie Report: Week One – part 1
1. Trent Murphy, outside linebacker
Murphy played well against the Patriots in week 1 of the preseason. He didn’t get a sack but he did have a good performance as a pass rusher and was solid against the run. However the area he needs to work on the most is in pass coverage. Murphy needs to keep learning the system and once he gets it down he should be a nice addition to the defense.
2. Morgan Moses, offensive tackle
Morgan Moses struggled early in his preseason debut against the Patriots. But once he settled down he actually didn’t do too badly. Moses has good raw talent that just needs to be refined. He’s a solid run blocker and has the size to be a good pass blocker too. He just needs to get better at his technique and he could develop into a starter down the road.
3. Spencer Long, right guard
Long has good power and agility as a run blocker but he had an uneven performance against the Patriots. Part of that I think is because he’s still getting comfortable with the Redskins offense and he still has a lot to learn. But the longer he’s in the system and the more experience he gets, I think Spencer Long could add valuable depth and size on the O-line in the future.
4. Bashaud Breeland, cornerback
Breeland being cited for marijuana possession put a damper on an otherwise good week of practice and game performance for him against the Patriots. He looked very physical in coverage and also had some good tackles against the run. He seems like he’s going to be a very good special teams player and a nice developmental prospect. But he needs to stay out of trouble.
