The Washington Redskins will take on the Cleveland Browns at home in their next preseason game.  It will be on Monday night, August 18th on ESPN and Browns first round draft pick Johnny Manziel will likely be starting at quarterback.  Manziel saw his first action of the season Saturday night against the Detroit Lions and went 7/11 for 63 yards passing and he also rushed for 27 yards.

The Cleveland Browns new offensive coordinator is Kyle Shanahan who recently held the same position for the Redskins up until last season.  So the Redskins should have some familiarity with what he will want to do with Manziel in the lineup.  As Manziel is a mobile quarterback with similar skills as Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Manziel is competing to be the starting quarterback in Cleveland against their starter from last season Brian Hoyer.  Hoyer started against the Lions so Manziel will likely start the next game.  Manziel has been criticized this offseason for partying too much and creating the impression that he wasn’t taking his task of becoming the starter for the Browns seriously enough.

But he will get a chance to prove himself against the Redskins who have experience practicing against a mobile quarterback in RGIII.  However, Manziel is learning a pro offense for the first time and he may struggle some but he’s also an intriguing talent.  And it will be interesting to see if he can have some success against the Redskins defense.
