Here is a list counting down the Top 32 Washington Redskins of 2014 – No. 11
11. Barry Cofield – nose tackle
Age 30, 6-4, 318 pounds
Analysis: Barry Cofield has been a solid nose tackle for the Washington Redskins over the past three seasons, and one of the most consistent players on the team. He plays well against the run, and has show decent pass rushing skills from the nose tackle position. The only issue with Cofield is that I think he’d make a better defensive end in the 3-4 than a nose tackle. He’s on the smaller end of what you want to see at the nose. And no, 318 pounds isn’t small but typically you want your nose tackle a little bigger. However, with the signing of Jason Hatcher and the depth the Redskins have at defensive end, it’s more than likely that Cofield will remain at nose tackle. And Cofield’s production just might improve with Hatcher lined up next to him.
Barry Cofield has been slowed this offseason due to hernia surgery, but he should be ready to go come training camp. And with Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett stating the defense will be more aggressive this season, then Cofield might be in line for his best season as a Redskins yet.
