Here is a list counting down the Top 32 Washington Redskins of 2014 – No. 13

13.  Kory Lichtensteiger – center

Age 29, 6-2, 284 pounds

Analysis: Kory Lichtensteiger makes the move center on the Redskins offensive line after playing five seasons at guard.  The Redskins cut last years starter Will Montgomery, and Lichtensteiger was the most logical choice to take over at the position.  Newly signed free agent Shawn Lauvao takes over for Lichtensteiger at left guard

With new head coach Jay Gruden’s plan to increase the size of the offensive line, Lichtensteiger’s move to center makes even more sense, as at only 284 pounds that makes lichtensteiger very small for a guard.  Although, that weight wasn’t really a detriment for a lineman playing in the zone blocking scheme that Mike Shanahan ran.

And while Gruden will keep the zone blocking attack, he wants to do it with bigger linemen.  However, Lichtensteiger performed very well last season, and the prevailing thought is that Lichtensteiger might make a much better center than he did a guard.  And he should be a good upgrade at the position.
