Here is a list counting down the Top 32 Washington Redskins of 2014 – No. 18
18. Ryan Clark – free safety
Age 34, 5-11, 205 pounds
Analysis: This is Ryan Clark’s second stint with the Washington Redskins. The first stint Clark had become a solid starter for the team, but they decided not to re-sign him, and he became a Pittsburgh Steeler. This was seen as a mistake by the Redskins as Clark went on to become a standout safety for the Steelers, while the Redskins had trouble getting good safety play. Especially after the death of Sean Taylor. The Redskins signed Clark as a free agent during the offseason, and he will compete for a starting job at free safety. At age 34, Clark isn’t the player he was during his peak seasons with the Steelers. However, the experience he brings to the table may make up for what he’s lost physically. He also brings great leadership skills to a defense that could use them with the retirement of London Fletcher.
Ryan Clark has been known to be very outspoken, especially in his criticism of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who has fined Clark previously for illegal hits. Yes Clark is known for being a hard hitter and also a sure tackler. And if Clark does end up becoming a starter for the Redskins, sure tackling is something the defense is in dire need of.
