Redskins Bubble Report – A look at Redskins players who are on the bubble of making the team or getting cut.
Santana Moss – wide receiver
The Washington Redskins re-signed wide receiver Santana Moss in the offseason, as at the time the wide receiver position was still lacking depth, especially with starter Leonard Hankerson recovering from a serious knee injury. And Moss still had a relatively productive 2013 season with 42 catches playing the slot receiver for the Redskins. Why he might get Cut? After Moss was re-signed the Redskins re-loaded at wide receiver. First signing free agent Andre Roberts from the Arizona Cardinals, and then aggressively signing former Redskin killer DeSean Jackson after he was unexpectedly cut by the Philadelphia Eagles. And those acquisitions have brought Moss’ future with the team into question.
Why he might make the Team? So far this offseason, new head coach Jay Gruden has liked what he’s seen from Santana Moss, so if he continues to perform well he may be able to hold on to a role with the team. It’s expected that Roberts will be the new slot receiver for the Redskins, and Moss has experience there. So he could continue to fill that role as a reserve.
Conclusion: There will be fierce competition for the remaining spots at wide receiver, as the Redskins drafted rookie Ryan Grant in the fifth round, and they still have Aldrick Robinson, and also Hankerson who will be fighting for a spot as well. So right now, unless one of the top guys gets injured, I think Moss will need to have an outstanding camp and preseason to make the team.
