2014 Redskins post draft Depth Chart - Linebackers

The Washington Redskins looked to the recent NFL Draft and free agency to not only improve the talent level of their linebacking corps, but to also add depth.  Here is a look at the projected Depth Chart of the linebackers, post NFL Draft.

Outside Linebacker

  1. Brian Orakpo - Orakpo was designated a Franchise Player by the Redskins, paying him $11.25 million in 2014.  Orakpo had 10 sacks last season, but is expected to exceed that in 2014.
  2. Rob Jackson - Has been a solid backup the past few seasons, and has resigned for 2014.
  3. Brandon Jenkins - Jenkins spent most of the 2013 season injured, and he didn’t have much of an impact.  However, if he can stay healthy he has a chance to show why some thought he was a fifth round steal in the 2013 draft.

Outside Linebacker

  1. Ryan Kerrigan -Kerrigan is a solid pass rusher, but the Redskins need more sacks from him in order for the defense to make a jump up over last season.
  2. Trent Murphy (rookie) – Murphy has been brought in to help rush the passer, and may end up a starter in the next few years.
  3. Adrian Robinson - A young player who will need to impress the coaching staff in order to find his spot on the team.

Inside Linebacker

  1. Perry Riley - With London Fletcher retiring, Riley is now one of the leaders of the defense, and after signing a new contract, he is expected to continue the improvement he’s shown the past few seasons.
  2. Akeem Jordan - Jordan was signed as a free agent to add depth at inside linebacker, and also contribute on special teams.
  3. Adam Hayward - Hayward has experience as a starter in a 4-3 defense at outside linebacker, but should be able to make the conversion to the inside.  However, special teams will be a major focus for Hayward ,as well.

Inside Linebacker

  1. Darryl Sharpton -Sharpton had a decent season in 2013 as a starter for the Texans, and will be expected to step in for London Fletcher.  The Redskins signed him to a one year contract, so he has the incentive to have a big season.
  2. Keenan Robinson - Robinson has shown that he has talent and potential, but he has not been able to stay healthy consistently enough to capitalize on that potential.
  3. Will Compton - Young linebacker who will try to make the team as a special teams player.

What does Trent Murphy pick mean for Orakpo and Kerrigan?
