Redskins draft wide receiver Ryan Grant in round 5

The Washington Redskins have selected Tulane wide receiver Ryan Grant at pick number 142 of the fifth round.  The Redskins were stacked at wide receiver with the additions of free agents DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts to go along with Pierre Garcon.  But they needed to find more quality depth at the position.

Here’s my evaluation:

Ryan Grant is a good route runner and has nice quickness in and out of his breaks.  He can play on the outside or inside as a slot receiver.  He has a knack for making big plays, and can catch short passes and break them for very long gains.

Grant is not very big at 6’0, 199, and he doesn’t have great speed, as he ran a 4.62 forty time at the scouting combine.  Even though has the quickness to break long plays off short passes, he’s not a consistent deep threat.

I’ll have more analysis on the Redskins selection of Ryan Grant shortly.
