The Washington Redskins have selected Clemson cornerback Bashaud Breeland at pick number 102 of the fourth round. The Redskins had a need to add depth at cornerback. They re-signed veteran DeAngelo Hall, and signed free agent Tracy Porter. So Breeland comes in and will help strengthen the cornerback position.
Here’s my evaluation:
Bashaud Breeland is a big physical cornerback. Not big in terms of height, but big in terms of his frame and stature. He’s very strong and can be used in a variety of ways. He’s particularly good in press coverage as he uses his strength to control receivers. Breeland is also very good coming on the blitz.
While Breeland is big and physical, he’s not a very fast corner. He ran a 4.59 forty at the combine, and he’s prone to get beat on deep passes. His cover skill could be better. At times he tends to use his strength too much, instead of relying on his coverage skills. Matches up well with bigger receivers, but has trouble with the slot.
I’ll have more analysis on the Redskins selection of Bashaud Breeland shortly.
