Just when it looked as though Santana Moss and the Washington Redskins were parting ways, they end up bringing the 34 year old veteran back with a 1-year deal according to Pro Football Talk. It seemed with the signing of Arizona Cardinals free Agent wide receiver Andre Roberts, that Moss’ tenure as a Redskin was over, but apparently it’s not.
Maybe this indicates the Redskins and new head coach Jay Gruden want to use Roberts as the number two outside receiver, and not in the slot. Moss has been steady as the Redskins slot receiver, and he can still be effective in that role. But even though Moss is coming back, I still expect the Redskins to bring in more new receivers.
Moss gives them an insurance policy in case other targets fall through. He’s a fan favorite and many will be happy to see him return. As he’s statistically one the best Redskins receivers of all time. With the addition on Roberts the Redskins have bolstered their receiving unit, but there is till work to be done.
There are still some free agent targets out there, and the NFL draft is fast approaching. And I think the Redskins will almost certainly use one of the top picks on a receiver. But by bringing back Santana Moss, the Redskins are ensuring that their receiving unit is not only talented, but deep as well.
