1. James Franklin, head coach – Vanderbilt Commodores  –  Franklin is arguably the fastest rising star in the coaching ranks.  He has done a fantastic job at Vanderbilt compiling a 24-15 record.  That record does not sound fantastic, but when you consider that Vanderbilt has been one of the worst teams in the SEC, then that record is outstanding.  Franklin has also taken the Commodores to three straight bowl games, something unprecedented in school history.  Franklin is the leading candidate for the opening at Penn State, but has yet to accept the job.  So he’s a new candidate, but he may be eliminated from contention if he accepts the Penn State offer.
