San Francisco 49ers - 12-4
Green Bay Packers - 8-7-1
49ers vs. Packers. The Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers have recent playoff history between them. The Packers were beaten last year in San Francisco 45-31, and also lost to them in week 1 of this season. But now the tables have turned. As the 49ers now have to come to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field, and find a way to beat the Packers on the road.
The Packers made the playoffs this season in dramatic fashion, beating the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on a last-minute 48 yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb. It was Rodgers first game back after missing seven games due to a shoulder injury he sustained in week 9, ironically against the Bears.
Rodgers wasn’t at his best last week, but he came through when he needed to and the Packers are a much better team obviously with him in the lineup. But will Rodgers presence alone be enough to beat the 49ers? As even though the Packers will be at home in most likely bad weather conditions, the Niners are still favored to win this game.
The 49ers smash mouth style of football is suited to bad weather. As they like to run the football, control time of possession, and win with defense. And their passing game has improved as well. Since wide receiver Michael Crabtree returned from injury, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s play has gotten much better from early in the season.
The Packers will be without their best defensive player in outside linebacker Clay Matthews due to a thumb injury, so it will be even harder to defend the Niners offense. The Packers will be able to run the ball with running back Eddie Lacy, and Rogers will keep them in the game. But the 49ers are the better team, and have the style necessary to beat the Packers on the road. 4:40 pm – FOX
