New Orleans Saints – 11-5
Philadelphia Eagles - 10-6
Saints vs. Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles enter this matchup winning seven of their last eight games. They enter the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the league, and head coach Chip Kelly’s offense is hitting on all cylinders. While the New Orleans Saints offense is always dangerous, but the Saints as a team come into this one in a bit of a slump.
Yes, they got a blow out win in week 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the Saints have lost three of their last five games, and their great offense hasn’t looked that good. The Saints seemed to be in the driver’s seat in the NFC South, but a week 13 blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks the Saints went into a funk down the stretch.
The Eagles were in a bit of a funk themselves at midseason. They were 3-5 in week 8 and Chip Kelly’s offense seemed like a bust in the NFL. But in week 9 against the Raiders, quarterback Nick Foles took control of the starting job with a record-setting performance of seven touchdown passes. And the Eagles then went on a five game winning streak.
However, even though the Saints aren’t playing their best football, this season has been a revival for them coming of a disappointing 7-9 season in 2012, and the spectre of the Bountygate scandal. Head coach Sean Payton returned from a year-long suspension, and got the Saints back on the winning track along with the addition of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.
But ultimately I have to go with the team who has the momentum, and that’s the Eagles. Not only is Foles playing well, but running back LeSean McCoy has had an MVP caliber season. The Eagles have the home field advantage, and I think this will be a high scoring game with the Eagles coming out on top in the end. 8:10 pm – NBC
