Kansas City Chiefs - 11-5
Indianapolis Colts - 11-5
Chiefs vs. Colts. Many people expected the Indianapolis Colts to be here at the start of the season, but the same can’t be said for the Chiefs. Oh yes, the Chiefs were expected to be improved with the addition of Andy Reid at head coach and Alex Smith at quarterback. But going from 2-14 in 2012 to 11-5 this season is quite a turn around.
The Colts on the other hand are the AFC North Champions and they have the home field advantage. They ended the season on a three game winning streak, and have a lot of momentum. The Chiefs began the season winning their first nine games and were one of the hottest teams in the league. However, they’ve lost five of their last seven games to end the season.
The Chiefs will point to injuries as one the main reasons for their late season slump, as they lost outside linebackers Justin Houston and Tamba Hali for multiple games to injury. They also lost left tackle Brandon Albert as well. But the Colts had a major loss to injury of their own, in top wide receiver Reggie Wayne to a torn ACL.
And these two teams are familiar with each other as they played in week 16 with the Colts winning on the road 23-7. However, the Chiefs had four turnovers in that game, and that more than anything led to the their loss. But the Colts are 6-2 at home and quarterback Andrew Luck has played really well down the stretch. Also, OLB Robert Mathis led the league in sacks with 19.5.
However, the Chiefs do have a shot to win this game, but I don’t think they will. The Chiefs will get back Brandon Albert and Justin Houston in their lineup, and they have MVP candidate Jamaal Charles. But the Colts are just playing too well right now, and I think they find a way to win a close one at home. 4:35 pm – NBC
