Redskins vs. Giants - Game Preview and Pick

Washington Redskins  – 3-12

New York Giants  - 6-9

Redskins vs. Giants.  Both teams have been eliminated from playoff contention, so each will have to search for motivation to win this game.  The Giants head coach Tom Coughlin will be back next season, so his players need to play well to ensure they impress the coach for a place in the team’s future.  But the Redskins Mike Shanahan will be fired soon, so what do his players have to play for?

One common cause they have is to rally around team captain London Fletcher’s last game as a Redskin.  Fletcher recently announced he was 99% sure he would retire at the end of the season, so this will more than likely be his last game as a pro.  And Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has this one last audition to impress NFL teams in need of a quarterback to enhance his trade value.

And also, this is an NFC East game, and these teams are bitter rivals, so there’s always that to add to the motivation.  The Giants came into FedEx Field in week 13 and got a nice win over the Redskins, so the Redskins will look to return the favor.  The Giants defensive end Justin Tuck had four sacks on the Redskins in that game, so the Redskins O-line will try to contain him this time around.

However, at the end of the day, I think the Giants motivation is stronger.  You don’t want to lose your last home game and have an entire offseason to think about it.  Also, Giants quarterback Eli Manning ahs been terrible this season, so this is his one last chance to gain something positive out of an otherwise disappointing season.  I think it will close, but the Giants will get the win.  1:00 pm – FOX
