Cowboys vs. Redskins. The Dallas Cowboys came into the game against the Washington Redskins as a team with a lot of questions. They blew a huge lead the previous week in a loss to the Green Bay Packers and their quarterback Tony Romo once again cracked under the pressure, with turnovers that contributed to the loss. But Romo answered this week with a game winning drive against arch rival Washington.
The Cowboys broke out on top with a DeMarco Murray 3 yard touchdown run, after yet another Redskins special teams breakdown allowed a 62 yard punt return to put the Cowboys in great field position. However, both teams defense then stepped up as Washington could muster a field goal by the end of the first quarter giving the Cowboys a 7-3 lead.
The Redskins then mounted a good drive with Alfred Morris getting the running game going, and Kirk Cousins finding Pierre Garcon in the passing game. But the drive stalled due to penalties, and the Redskins settled for another field goal by Kai Forbath bringing the score to 7-6 Cowboys.
But then the Cowboys offense came to life as running back DeMarco Murray began to make his presence felt with some big runs, and Romo continued to connect the Dez Bryant. And the drive ended a six play 93 yard drive with a 14 yard Tony Romo touchdown pass the Dez Bryant, giving the Cowboys a 14-6 lead at halftime.
After the half though, the Cowboys began to self destruct with a fumble by fullback Tyler Clutts, which the Redskins capitalized on with a drive ending with an 8 yard TD pass from Cousins to Garcon, bring the score to 14-13 Cowboys. Then a Tony Romo interception led to another Redskins drive giving them the lead 20-14 on 4 yard Alfred Morris run.
The Redskins added to the lead in the 4th quarter with another Forbath field goal. But that’s when Tony Romo stepped up and took control of the game. First he led the Cowboys on a 73 yard drive ending with a Dan Bailey field goal bringing the score to 23-17 Redskins. And after forcing a Redskins punt the Cowboy took possession at their own 13 yard line.
Romo then led a an 87 yard drive culminating in a 10 yard touchdown pass from Romo to Murray on fourth down. After to Redskins stops on second and third down, it seemed the Redskins might win, but Romo came through with the huge play to give the Cowboys a 24-23 victory. The Cowboys will now face the Philadelphia Eagles next week at home to decide the NFC East Champion.
