Instant Analysis - The Redskins lead the Falcons 20-17 at the Half

Redskins vs. Falcons - 1st Half analysis.  The Redskins Kirk Cousins has played really well, but both teams have turned the ball over and had moments of bad play.  But the Redskins lead the game 20-17.

First Quarter:

  • The Redskins defense so far looks uninspired, as the Falcons march down and take a 7-0 lead.
  • Kirk Cousins looking sharp early, but the Falcons pass rush is getting him.
  • Trent Williams gave up the sack and strip to Umenyiora.  More weak pass protection for the Redskins.  But Cousins may have held on to the ball too long.
  • The big receivers of the Falcons are causing the Redskins secondary problems.  Tony Gonzalez and Roddy White are using their size to get open.  Redskins vs. Falcons
  • Darrell Young with a huge block on a 37 yard run by Alfred Morris.  That’s been missing with Young out due to injury.
  • Cousins continues to look good, as he hits Fred Davis on the touchdown pass.
  • Nice to see Davis having an impact on the game, especially with Jordan Reed out.
  • The first quarter ends.  Falcons lead 14-7.

Second Quarter:

  • More special teams issues for the Redskins, as the punt hits Santana Moss and the Falcons recover.
  • Nice job by the Redskins defense in stiffening up to hold the Falcons to a field goal.
  • Kirk Cousins with the deep pass to Aldrick Robinson.  Cousins good play continues.
  • Bad fumble by Alfred Morris. Typically he’s more sure-handed than that.
  • Both teams now turning the ball over back and forth to each other.  Bad play by both teams.
  • The Falcons offensive line is terrible.  Brian Orakpo’s good play continues.
  • Matt Ryan makes a huge mistake as he could have run for an easy first down and tried to flip it for a pass with little success.
  • Kirk Cousins fires a long TD pass to Pierre Garcon, and the score is now 17-14 Falcons.
  • The Redskins running game looking really good.  The Falcons defense looking really bad.

The Redskins offense looks good behind Kirk Cousins, but I think we’re seeing just how bad the Falcons are.  Not a lot of fight in them, and their offensive line is bad.  The Redskins have a shot to win this game.
