San Francisco 49ers - 6-4
Washington Redskins - 3-7
49ers vs. Redskins. Coming off of successful trips to the playoffs last season, both of these teams have struggled in ways they didn’t last year. Their young QB’s were both playing well and taking the league by storm. But that’s changed and the 49ers have gone from Super Bowl runner-ups to fighting for a wild card spot, and the Redskins may not make the playoffs at all.
Lately much of the blame for the Redskins troubles has been heaped on second year QB Robert Griffin III. It seems some believe that RGIII’s quotes and a perceived lack of maturity are the reason the Redskins are losing. But anyone who truly wants to know the real reason, only need to look at the numbers to discover why the Redskins are losing.
Terrible special teams and bad defense are the culprits. How do I know this? Because you can flip over to the 49ers and find a team that’s the exact opposite of the Redskins. The Redskins offense has done enough to win games, but the team has been let down more by their other units. The numbers don’t lie.
The 49ers have statistically one of the worst offenses in the NFL, but they are bolstered by good defense and special teams. Something the Redskins lack. And all the sensationalist headlines that pile the blame on RGIII may bring some in the media the more attention, but true analysts can see past all the soap opera nonsense.
That’s why I think the Redskins have a chance to win. They play better at home, and the 49ers don’t have a high-powered offense. And regardless of the criticism, RGIII is still capable of performing well under pressure. So if the Redskins can limit their turnovers and get some early scores, they could steal a win.
However, I don’t think that’s going to happen. In Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers have a coach who understands this isn’t last year. He doesn’t have last years Colin Kaepernick, and has adapted his team to what they are now, and not what they were last year. Where as Mike Shanahan hasn’t adapted at all, and is still sticking to the plan from last year, and teams have caught up with it.
I think it will be close, and a hard-fought battle. The Redskins have the better offense, and they will be motivated playing on Monday night in front of a national audience, but the 49ers are the better team. And being on the same page, being a closer knit unit will get them the win on the road. 49ers vs. Redskins.
Score prediction: 24-20 49ers
