New Orleans Saints – 8-2
Atlanta Falcons - 2-8
Saints vs. Falcons. For many years these two teams were two of the worst franchises in the NFL. But even though that was the case, a fierce rivalry developed between the two teams and their fans. And now that the Falcons and the Saints have become two of the winningest teams in the league, the rivalry has become even more heated.
And yes, the Falcons season isn’t going the way they would have liked, especially with the Saint sitting at the top of the NFC South. But when these two teams come together you can throw the records out the window. Even sitting at 2-8 the Atlanta Falcons would take great pleasure in spoiling the Saints chances to win the division.
However, that’s going to be a daunting task. Because the Falcons are riddled with injuries, and GM Thomas Dimitroff’s failure to put a team together with the proper depth is coming back to haunt the Falcons, and puts head coach Mike Smith on the Hot Seat. Their offensive line is weak in protecting QB Matt Ryan, and they lack pass rushers on the defensive line.
Against a quarterback like Drew Brees a light pass rush is a big problem. Even last season in a down year the Saints offense was good, and with head coach Sean Payton back on the sidelines it’s that much better. With the addition of Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator, the Saints are a much more complete team, and capable of beating anyone.
But one thing that the Falcons have going for them though is this is a home game. That gives them an edge and increases their chances to win. It will a raucous atmosphere in the Georgia Dome, and if the Falcons can stay close, that will benefit them come late in the game.
However, the Falcons just don’t have enough offense to stay with the Saints. And while I don’t it will be a blow out, the Saints will pull away late. Saints win.
