Redskins vs. Vikings: A look into how the Washington Redskins offense matches up with the Minnesota Vikings defense.
Redskins rushing offense – 6th in the NFL at 146.3 yards per game,
Vikings rush defense – 11th in the NFL at 104 yards per game
The Vikings are a good team against the run. Primarily because of their strength up front with DT Kevin Williams and at Linebacker with Chad Greenway and Erin Henderson. However, this will not stop the Redskins from trying to run the football. And with one of the best running backs in the NFL Alfred Morris, the Redskins will test the Vikings on the ground.
Morris had a big game in Week 9 against the San Diego Chargers, and the Vikings know they will need to do everything in their power to stop Morris. Also, QB Robert Griffin III can be a dangerous runner too, as the Vikings learned all too well last season. So add in change of pace back Roy Helu, Jr. and the Vikings will have their hands full with the Redskins running attack.
Redskins passing offense – 12th in the NFL at 261.4 yards per gameVikings passing defense – 29th in the NFL at 291.1 yards per game
One would think that since the Vikings have one of the worst pass defenses in the league, that the Redskins would be smart to try to go after them hard. However, the Redskins passing game is a work in progress, so I expect them to establish the run, and have RGIII take what the defense gives him with the pass.
The Vikings secondary is weak, especially with safety Harrison Smith out with a toe injury. But again their linebackers are strong against the pass too. So I look for the Redskins to attack the Viking linebackers and safeties with rookie tight end Jordan Reed. his presence seems to be opening things up on the outside for WR Pierre Garcon, as he’s coming off his best game of the season against the Chargers.
Redskins vs. Vikings – Most Intriguing Individual Matchup:
Trent Williams vs. Jared Allen – This is an all-pro matchup right here. One of the best pass rushers in the NFL in Allen, and one of the best left tackles. Williams has only given up two sacks on the season, and the Vikings will need Allen to put pressure on RGIII, as the Vikings secondary will need help from a good pass rush. So the winner of this matchup may determine who wins the game. Redskins vs. Vikings
