San Diego Chargers – 4-3
Washington Redskins - 2-5
Chargers vs. Redskins. These two teams are about opposite of where most people expected them to be at the start of the season. The Redskins were expected to be in the thick of the NFC East race and the Chargers were expected to be struggling under a new head coach and a QB in Philip Rivers, whose career some thought to be on a downward trend.
But it’s the Redskins and head coach Mike Shanahan who have struggled, and it’s his QB Robert Griffin III who’s play hasn’t been on the level it was last season, thanks to recovering from a torn ACL. The Chargers’ rookie head coach Mike McCoy has gotten Philip Rivers back to playing at a high level, and the Chargers have one of the best offenses in the NFL.
However, the Redskins went up against the best offense in the league last week in the Broncos, and held their own for the first three quarters before the Broncos pulled away. This experience will prepare the Redskins to face off against the Chargers, and I think their defense would have been more successful late, if the Redskins could have gotten anything from their offense.
And where the Redskins passing game was stagnant against the Broncos, I think it will have some success against the Chargers. The Chargers don’t have the kind of pass rushers the Broncos have, so RGIII will have more time in the pocket. I look for the Redskins use more of their Turbo no-huddle offense, and things should be more diverse.
I think it will be a close game though, because the Chargers offense won’t be kept down the entire game. But I think the Redskins will win it in the end.
Score prediction: 28-24 Redskins
Points spread: Redskins – 1
