Washington Redskins - 2-4
Denver Broncos - 6-1
Redskins vs. Broncos. The Redskins enter this game with still some hope of turning their season around after they got a much-needed win in week 7 over the Chicago Bears. But now they come into week 8 with the daunting task of having to face one of best teams in the league on the road in the Denver Broncos.
It seems as though the Broncos are a matchup nightmare for the Redskins especially on offense, where they are led by the great Peyton Manning. And his up-tempo offense has come out the gates so fast, that it may have a chance at going down as one of the best ever. While the Redskins defense has had serious issues dealing with up-tempo offenses.
But I get the sense that the Redskins will come into Denver believing that they can win the game. And with their own offense led by QB Robert Griffin III seeming to come into its own over the last few weeks, they have good reason to be confident. Plus, we saw last week against the Colts, the Broncos are not invincible.
However, even though I think the Redskins have a real chance to win this game, I don’t think they will. At this point in the season, the Broncos are just a better team. I think the Redskins will keep it closer than some might think, but they have too many uncertainties on defense and special teams to stay with Peyton Manning’s offense.
But that doesn’t mean the Redskins can’t continue to improve during the season and still win the NFC East, because they can. And winning regular season games while shattering offensive records doesn’t mean the Broncos will win the Super Bowl either. Like Mike Shanahan said, an NFL season is a marathon, not a sprint.
So there’s still hope that the tortoise will eventually catch up to the rabbit, but for now the rabbit is just too far ahead. Broncos win.
Score prediction: 38-28 Broncos
Points spread: Broncos - 11.5
