Here is part two with Kim Constantinesco of predominantlyorange.com answering five questions about the upcoming contest between the Washington Redskins and the Denver Broncos. Redskins vs. Broncos – week 8, questions 3, 4 and 5.
3) The Broncos offense is ranked 1st in the NFL, and their defense is ranked 30th. Why is there such a disparity between the two?
The offense has been so effective this year that it will often go 80+ yards in under two minutes. That puts the defense on the field a lot, and with little rest in between series. Not all of the defense’s woes can be placed on the offense, however. The team has struggled with injuries (Champ Bailey and Wesley Woodyard) or suspensions (Miller) throughout the year.
4) Which Denver Broncos players on offense and defense should the Redskins be concerned about the most?
On offense, obviously there’s Peyton Manning. However, I’m going to list Knowshon Moreno here. The Redskins have poor rush defense, and Moreno leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns. Once Manning opens things up in the passing game, this should be Moreno’s for the taking.
On defense, keep an eye on undrafted second year safety Duke Ihenacho. He’s a ball-hawking guy that seems to be in on every play. With pressure coming to RG-III, Ihenacho will come up with some big plays in this one.
5) Which Denver Broncos player has been the biggest surprise, and which has been the biggest disappointment so far this season?
The biggest surprise has been the impact that tight end Julius Thomas has had. Teams are so worried about Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, and Wes Welker that Thomas, a former basketball player, has come up huge, particularly down in the red zone.
The biggest disappointment has been 2013 first round draft pick DT Sylvester Williams. Williams should at least have a sack by now, but he doesn’t. He takes plays off and he hasn’t demonstrated why he should have been selected in the first round.
