Washington Redskins – 1-4
Chicago Bears - 4-2
Bears vs. Redskins. The Chicago Bears appear to have fixed some of the problems they had from last season, and have started the 2013 season looking like a sure contender. Their QB Jay Cutler is off to a fast start and the Bears now have one of the highest scoring teams in the NFL. The Redskins by contrast seem to have regressed from last season, and are searching for that spark to get things pointed back in the right direction.
The Redskins were somewhat in the same position last year. But with the season on the brink and things looking grim, they went on a late season winning streak that ended with an NFC East title and a spot in the playoffs. So it’s no wonder that head coach Mike Shanahan is still confident that his team will turn the season around.
The team has yet to play a complete game in all aspects, as either the offense, defense, or special teams has failed from week to the next. And if Shanahan can get the team on the same page at the same time, then they still have a chance. Redskins QB Robert Griffin III has yet to play at the level he did last year, as rust from a lack of reps and overcoming injury seems to have stunted the growth of the 2012 rookie of the year.
But confidence remains that RGIII will get the Redskins offense humming ain, and there have been glimpses of that, but it’s not quite there. With the Bears defense suffering from injuries, the Redskins offense has to take advantage and get a desperately need win at home. The defense has been playing better, and will need that to continue, as the Bears offense is just fine.
It won’t be pretty, but I think the Redskins will find a way to pull out a win against a good Bears team. I think it will be close, and it may come down to the last possession. But the Redskins will win.
Score prediction: 24-23 Redskins
Points spread: Bears – 1
Over/under: 49.5 – Under
