Enemy Intel Report - Bears vs. Redskins - part 2

Mike Praser of answers five questions about the upcoming contest between the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins.  Bears vs. Redskins – week 7, questions 3, 4, and 5.

3) Has the Chicago Bears defense been better or worse without the retired Brian Urlacher?

I think the Chicago Bears defense has been worse without Brian Urlacher, but I don’t think it has everything to do with Brian Urlacher being gone. I know he was the one who called the defense and made sure everyone was in the right place, but he had lost at least 2-3 steps by the end of his career and the Bears did a great job drafting at Linebacker for the future. I think the defense is declining mostly due to the Defensive Line not performing and I think that has everything to do with losing Rod Marinelli in the offseason. He really knew how to make the defensive line work.

4) How will the injuries on the Bears defensive line, affect the way the Bears defense attacks the Redskins offense?

The Bears are going to be sending in a lot of extra help in order to pressure the quarterback. Expect to see linebackers, corners and safeties all rushing up to the line to either stop the run or rush the passer. If RGIII can take advantage of this, the Redskins should have no problem scoring points on the Bears, but if the Bears generate pressure and RGIII makes mistakes, expect the Bears to capitalize the mistakes into turnovers and possibly points.

5) Which Chicago Bears player has been the biggest surprise, and which has been the biggest disappointment so far this season?

The Chicago Bears player who has been the biggest surprise so far this year would have to be Jordan Mills. It’s not everyday that a team drafts an Offensive Tackle in the fifth round and they perform as well as he has been so far this year. To expand on that, the whole offensive line has been a real surprise. It is amazing that they are keeping Cutler clean game after game. It’s not all the O-Line, but us Chicago Bears fans are not used to seeing Cutler standing in the pocket for very long. He has been running for his life for years.

The biggest disappointment has to be Julius Peppers. He has just disappeared in the stats and is not performing the way he should be. He only has one sack in 6 games, and he is out of excuses. I understand he is getting double teamed and the line is in shambles, but he has to find ways to make plays. He just might not have it in him anymore.
