Redskins vs. Cowboys - The Redskins offense vs. Cowboys defense

Redskins vs. Cowboys:  A look into how the Washington Redskins offense matches up with the Dallas Cowboys defense.

Redskins rushing offense – 17th in the NFL at 106 yards per game,

Cowboys rush defense4th in the NFL at 82.8 yards per game

It would seem the Redskins may have difficulty running the ball on the Cowboys, given that they have been very strong against the run this season.  So the Cowboys switch to the 4-3 may be paying dividends for them in this regard.  But then again, the Cowboys have not yet to faced a team very good at running the football.  And the last time the Cowboys faced the Redskins, running back Alfred Morris had 200 yards rushing.

Morris had a rib injury against the Raiders, and may not be 100% against the Cowboys, but he should play.  The yards will come hard, but the Redskins will still try to run the ball.  But it’s not clear how much Robert Griffin III will try to run.  He had 63 yards rushing in his last game against the Cowboys, but given his penchant to not run as much this season, I doubt he gets close to that against the Cowboys this time.

The Cowboys defense has been even worse against the pass than the Redskins have this season.   But unfortunately the high-ranking the Redskins have is a bit misleading.  As they have not really been a very good passing team this season, with most of the yards coming when the Redskins were behind, attempting a comeback.

However, I’m sure the Redskins worked diligently over the bye week, to find ways to get their passing game going, especially earlier in games.  So I look for the Redskins to use Robert Griffin III to try hard to exploit a weak Cowboys secondary.  Griffin should look sharper coming off of the bye, and I think the Redskins will have some success through the air.

Intriguing Individual Matchup

Trent Williams vs. DeMarcus Ware – Ware is healthy this season, and leads the Cowboys with 4 sacks.  Trent Williams hasn’t given up a sack so for the Redskins this season, so this will be an interesting battle.
