Redskins vs. Buccaneers: Game Preview with The Pewter Plank

Each week we try to get inside the heads of the opposite side.  This week I tried to talk with the lead editor at  The Pewter Plank.  (The Pewter Plank  is’s blog that covers the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.)  After trying to exchange smoke signals, it was obvious the Bucs were out to sea and scared of coming to land to face the Redskins.  Below is how I think the conversation would have gone, had there been one with the pirates from down south.

What do the fans make of Greg Schiano end of game tactics when the other team takes the a knee?

PP: If we are gonna be called the Buccaneers, then we will act like pirates and try to steal a win, no matter if someone gets hurt and there is almost no chance of that risk bearing a reward in the form of a win.  It’s just frustrating to lose game after game by the slimmest of margins and it is a last ditch effort to win the game.  It shows our coach won’t quit even if there is a 1% chance it will salvage out a win.

How does it feel to watch game film of the Redskins secondary play the Bengals and realize you’re not even that good?

PP: Flat out embarrassing.  Our pass defense is the worst in the league, and RG3 has a strong arm.  However Josh Freeman and Vincent Jackson have been watching that tape on loop for the past 4 days.  Yes, we have the worst offense in the NFL, but we still feel we can move the ball this week.

What do you think accounts for the Buccaneers lack of offense this year?

PP: Josh Freeman is trying to be more of a pocket passer and less of a guy that makes plays with his feet.  I think you can overcompensate and try to become too much of a pocket passer.  This is probably the same thing that is going on in Philadelphia where Vick stands like a statue until somebody hits him so hard he fumbles the ball.  I do think that he and Vincent Jackson will eventually get on the same page, and this offense will be clicking again in no time.

What is your prediction for the final score?

PP: With the worst two pass defenses facing each other, and two better than average quarterbacks playing, this will be another high scoring game.  However, with less than two minutes, Rg3 takes the snap to kneel and we charge him.  Since he is so banged up from running the option 15 times against us, it’s easy to make him fumble.  Two snaps later, the DeBurnt boys are beat deep, and we escape the game with the win.  38-35 Bucaneers.
